Old Jeans- New Skirt

Erin had a favorite pair of jeans. She loved them and would wear them whenever possible. I admit I loved them too. But being a favorite jean sad things began to happen. A little hole in one knee. A little hole in another knee. Then trouble really started happening. You see Erin has this obsession with strings, she CANNOT leave them alone.
I have a theory that it is because her first blanket in her crib was a brand new rag quilt, (if your not familiar with a brand new rag quilt you need to know that it will produce little string for months.) And she got so use to little strings as a baby she now loves them as a child. She always has and I am afraid she always will. this obsession has cost us countless sock and tights that might have been saved.
Anyways her jeans little holes began producing little strings and she cant stop playing with and pulling at. Before we knew it the holes weren't so little any more and me being a really mean mom said that Erin couldn't wear them in public any longer.
Don't worry though, I made them into something Erin can love again. My MIL kept saying I needed to turn them into shorts, but I am afraid that since I have had so many shorts that were once jeans that I couldn't bear the thought. They just never looked right. So I decided on a skirt.
(Erin has entered this phase where she either over or under smiles, she cannot naturally smile on command)

Anyways I thought it turned out pretty cute. Erin really likes it too, but she is still a little sad about them not being comfy jeans any more.

My new favortie 3 recipes

As you all know I love food. And I love finding and making new recipes. So I am going to share with you what I think I might live off this summer.

Main Dish
: A fabulous garlic honey homemade bbq sauced smothering any meat I can find. I got the recipe from allrecipes.com but I have altered it to fit my needs. You can find my altered version here.
Side dish : A potato that seriously makes my world go round (I have made it at least once a week since I discovered it.) You can thank The Pioneer Woman for this recipe. Go here to get the recipe. On a side note I always use dry rosemary and it is divine. I would use fresh but my plant isn't big enough to cut up just yet.Dessert: Strawberry Trifle. It has just enough lemon in it to make you go dizzy with delight. ( I apologize for the picture, I didn't take one and it is a Pampered Chef recipe and this is the only pic of it I could find.) I don't have a link for you to follow so the recipe is below.

Strawberry Cream Trifle

1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted
1 pkg (10.75 oz) frozen pound cake, thawed
1 qt. fresh strawberries
1 container (16 oz) frozen sliced strawberries in syrup, thawed
1 lemon
3 containers (8 oz each) blended strawberry yogurt
1 pkg (3.4 oz) cheesecake instant pudding and pie filling
1 container (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided
Powdered sugar

  1. Coarsely chop almonds. Cut pound cake into 1-in. cubes set aside. Set aside one strawberry for garnish. Hull remaining strawberries and cut into quarters. Combine fresh and frozen strawberries; mix well.

  2. Juice lemon to measure 2 tbsp juice. Whisk lemon juice, yogurt and pudding mix until smooth; immediately fold in 1 cup of the whipped topping.

  3. To assemble trifle, place one-third of the pound cake cubes into bottom of Trifle Bowl. Top pound cake with one-third of the strawberry mixture. Top with half of the yogurt mixture, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with one-third of the almonds. Repeat layers one time. Top with remaining pound cake cubes and remaining strawberry mixture.

  4. To garnish, spread remaining whipped topping over top of trifle. Sprinkle remaining almonds over whipped topping. Create strawberry fan with reserved strawberry; place into center of trifle.

I hope you enjoy the recipes as much as I do. Believe me they are all worth it!

Kaylee's Blessing

Last week was Kaylee's blessing. It was beautiful. The only thing I regret is being a crazy person and not getting a few more pictures afterward.
I feel so blessed to have such a beautiful family and to be married to a righteous priesthood bearer. I feel blessed for the family they came and supported us. My grandparents came out from Provo, I am so glad they could make it.
James gave her a beautiful blessing and the spirit was so strong. During testimonies Erin had to get up and bear her testimony. She is so sweet and she is a great big sister. She expressed how much she loves Kaylee and how sweet she is. She also mentioned that her cousin Ivy was her favorite cousin. Erin has a wonderful little testimony. Lily wants to bear her testimony as well she just has a hard time verbally expressing herself.
One of the fun things about this blessing is that I smocked all of the girls dresses and sewed Erin's and Lily's. My mom sewed Kaylee's dress and they all turned out so beautiful.

I feel so blessed to have my family. I feel blessed to know how much our Father in Heaven loves us. I am so grateful for all that I.
